Ways to Increase Self-Discipline

If you are not achieving what you want you might be lacking self-discipline. Self-discipline is something we all want more of.

If you are having difficulty following through at your job or hitting the gym or completing your household chores, you could be suffering from lack of self-discipline. You already know what you need to do. Now, it’s all about getting yourself to take action.

Here are 3 self-discipline tools:

1. Find ways to make it enjoyable.

Research has shown that people exercise longer when they are listening to music that they enjoy. Fitness clubs also place TV monitors on cardio exercise machines to make the experience more enjoyable. Asking yourself what you can do to make whatever it is you need to take action on more enjoyable can change everything.

2. Think about the times when you were successful.

If you dwell on the times you failed to follow through or when you made mistakes, you will more than likely create more of them.  Dwelling on failure creates more failure. Thinking of the times you were successful creates the energy and determination to follow through on your current task.

3. Use the power of reward.

This is the carrot on the stick. Any animal trainer will tell you that giving rewards encourages behavior. Dolphins get fish, horses get apples, monkeys get bananas, dogs get bones, and kids get cookies. How can you reward yourself? Make 10 sales calls in a day and you reward yourself with a Coca-cola. Complete daily home chores or school assignment and you can watch your favorite nightly TV show. What reward can give yourself whenever you reach a milestone? Think small. Reward yourself.

Use a these to help you increase your self-disciple and watch your life improve for the better.

Best of success to you!
