The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.

I saw, in fact, history being written not in terms of what happened but of what ought to have happened according to various “party lines.”

Since men are neither omniscient nor infallible, they must be free to agree or disagree, to cooperate or to pursue their own independent course, each according to his own rational judgment. Freedom is the fundamental requirement of man's mind.

Freedom is not something that anybody can be given. Freedom is something people take, and people are as free as they want to be.

Fundamentally, there are only to ways of coordinating the economic activities of millions. One is central direction involving the use of coercion — the technique of the army and the modern totalitarian state. The other is voluntary cooperation — the technique of the marketplace.

The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be, secure when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them.

Let us remind ourselves that it is ordinary people – men and women, boys and girls – that make the world a special place.
