A man can be destroyed but not defeated.

Defeat is a state of mind. You are defeated only when you accept defeat, and assume the hopeless mindset of a defeated person.

You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.

Life is to be lived, not controlled; and humanity is won by continuing to play in face of certain defeat.

Far better it is to dare might things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they in the gray twilight that knows nor victory nor defeat.

Without the assistance of that Divine Being who ever attended him, I cannot succeed. With that assistance I cannot fail. Trusting in Him who can go with me, and remain with you, and be everywhere for good, let us confidently hope that all will yet be well.

The season of failure is the best time for sowing the seeds of success.
